NCIAVHR Listens to Child Mine Victims in Marib
Marib | June 4, 2024
The National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) listened to several child victims of mines in Yemen at its office in Marib, coinciding with the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.
This hearing included live testimonies from child victims and their families, recounting the violations they experienced and the resulting physical, material, and psychological suffering that deprived them of leading normal lives and continuing their education.
The hearing session is part of the Commission’s investigative mechanisms aimed at listening to the voices of victims and eyewitnesses. The goal is to understand the reality of the violations experienced by the victims, and the physical, health, and psychological impacts they endured, and to support the evidence for the investigation through diverse live testimonies.
The Commission expresses its concern over the increasing number of violations affecting children, particularly those resulting from the planting of mines, which have claimed the lives of many children.
On this occasion, the Commission calls for the necessity of protecting children’s rights in Yemen by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, human rights laws, international humanitarian law, and national legislation.
