The NCIAVHR Discusses with Taiz Axis Commanders Guarantees for Protecting Civilians in Parallel with the Opening of Roads

Today. the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) held a meeting with the commander of the Taiz axis, Brigadier General Abdulaziz Al-Mujidi, as part of its program of meetings with military entities in the Republic’s governorates to assess the implementation of principles of international humanitarian law.

During the meeting, Brigadier Al-Mujidi praised the Commission’s continued engagement and communication with the Axis leadership on human rights issues. He emphasized the Axis leadership and its affiliated military brigades’ commitment to responding to the Commission’s inquiries and facilitating its visits to detention centers and civilian sites affected by the war.

Judge Ishraq Al-Muqtari, a Commission member, reviewed key recommendations and observations concerning the security and military situation in Taiz, stressing the importance of the Taiz Axis leadership’s positive response to the Commission’s concerns regarding several incidents under investigation.

Also present were Major General Abdoh Al-Buhairi, Director General of Military Intelligence, Brigadier General Mansour Al-Hasani of the 22nd Mika Brigade, Colonel Abdulbasit Al-Bahr, Director of Moral Guidance, and Colonel Abdulrahman Al-Yousfi, Director of the Media Center. They reviewed several case files investigated by the Commission in the first half of 2024.

Discussions included internal accountability measures for military personnel and current procedures related to movement in and out of the city and to the Hawban area controlled by the Houthi group. This pertained specifically to the opening of the Qasr Roundabout road, ensuring freedom of movement, and the safety and dignity of citizens, in addition to maintaining security and stability in Taiz. Emphasis was placed on improving the quality and procedures of services for travelers and returnees.
