NCIAVHR Meets with the Head of the Counter-Terrorism Unit

Today, the Chairperson and members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) met with Major General Shalal Shaya, Head of the Counter-Terrorism Unit in the interim capital, Aden, to discuss various issues and files under the Commission’s investigation and to seek responses to several inquiries it has received.
During the meeting, the Chairperson of the Commission, Judge Ahmed Al-Maflahi, explained that this visit is part of the Commission’s program to meet with leaders of security and military agencies in different governorates and to inspect the conditions of prisoners and detainees in all security and law enforcement agencies.
Judge Al-Maflahi commended the unit’s management for its responsiveness to the Commission’s requests and inquiries, which facilitates the investigation processes into the cases monitored and documented by the Commission’s field observers spread across the Yemeni governorates.
For his part, Major General Shalal Shaya expressed his welcome for the meeting with the Commission, affirming the unit’s commitment to overcoming all obstacles that might impede the Commission’s work and to responding to all its inquiries and memoranda regarding the cases it handles.
During the meeting, attended by Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali, Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, and Judge Nasser Al-Awadhli, a Commission member, Major General Shaya highlighted the significant efforts made by the Counter-Terrorism Unit to achieve the highest level of stability and security, despite operating under difficult and sensitive conditions, particularly with the multiplicity of security agencies. He also noted that the unit operates under judicial authority and does not have any secret detention facilities.
