NCIAVHR Discusses Human rights Conditions and Future Visions for Improvement with the Norwegian Envoy to Yemen

Today, members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) met with the special envoy of the Kingdom of Norway to Yemen, Ms. Heidi Johannessen, in the interim capital of Aden.

During the meeting, the Deputy Chairman of the Commission, Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali, welcomed the visit, which is the first by the Norwegian delegation to Yemen. He outlined the Commission’s investigative mechanisms, which are aligned with international human rights standards, and highlighted the key outcomes and achievements of its work to date.

The discussion also covered the Commission’s steps in holding parties to the conflict accountable, its relationship with entities involved in accountability and law enforcement, and opportunities for future cooperation between the Commission and the Norwegian Foreign Ministry to strengthen humanitarian efforts and achieve justice centered on victims.

The Norwegian envoy expressed her great admiration for the valuable work of the Commission and its field team, commending their independence, particularly given the numerous challenges and difficulties they face. She also praised the courage shown by the Commission in ensuring accuracy in documentation, and emphasized the Norwegian Foreign Ministry’s interest in the Commission’s efforts and reports.

Also participating in the meeting were Senior Advisor of the Norwegian Agency for Humanitarian Cooperation, Mr. Ole Lindmann, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry’s Head of Humanitarian Policy, Mr. Arne Volleras, and National Commission members Judge Sabah Alwan and Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari.
