NCIAVHR Discusses Human Rights Situation with Hadhramaut Governor

Today, the Chairman and members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) met with Hadhramaut Governor Mabkhout Mubarak bin Madi to address the human rights situation in Yemen’s eastern governorate, Al-Mukalla.

During the meeting, Judge Ahmed Al-Maflahi, Chairman of the Commission, along with Deputy Chairman Judge Hussein Al-Mashadli and Commission Member Judge Nasser Al-Audhali, presented the outcomes of recent discussions with judicial, security, and military leaders in the governorate. They also provided an overview of the Commission’s recent activities, which included regular meetings with field monitors and a workshop with civil society organizations.

The meeting, attended by Deputy Governor for Defense and Security Affairs Brigadier General Saleh Al-Hamdi and Director General of Legal Affairs for Coastal Hadhramaut, Salem Kaneed Al-Obthani, focused on ways to support the Commission’s mission in the governorate. This cooperation aims to enhance and protect human rights, provide justice for victims of violations, and strengthen collaboration between local authorities and the Commission.

Governor Bin Madi emphasized the commitment of local authorities to provide the necessary support and resources to enable the Commission to carry out its legal responsibilities in monitoring, documentation, and investigation. He underscored the importance of the Commission’s independence and its ability to communicate freely with human rights stakeholders in order to fulfill its mission impartially.

The governor also affirmed the local authority’s dedication to upholding national laws and principles of justice and fairness, highlighting the ongoing coordination between local, judicial, security, and military authorities. He pointed out efforts to support central reform institutions in the governorate and to ensure the provision of food and medicine for inmates from various eastern governorates.
