Lahj | January 13, 2025
Today, the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) conducted a field visit to the Rabat West and Rabat East displacement camps in Lahj Governorate. This visit was prompted by complaints received by the Commission regarding alleged violations in several camps across different governorates.
The team, led by Commission member Judge Dhiaa Muhayriz and accompanied by field researchers, met with camp officials to discuss the human rights and humanitarian situation. Officials outlined the efforts of the Displaced Persons Unit in the governorate, highlighting the challenges posed by limited resources and detailing the contributions of various organizations in providing essential support to the 730 individuals residing in these camps.
The Commission’s team also listened to testimonies from several displaced persons, documenting recurring violations they have experienced, including forced displacement, attacks on their lives, threats to their physical safety, destruction of their homes, and injuries caused by landmines and explosive remnants of war.
Additionally, the team assessed the living conditions of the displaced individuals, focusing on the availability of critical services such as shelter, healthcare, food, and safety within the camps.
