NCIAVHR Discusses with the New Netherlands Ambassador the Recent Human Rights Situation in Yemen

The Chairman and members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) met today, Sunday, in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Yemen, Ms. Janet Seepin, and the political attaché at the embassy, Ms. Tessa Scholma.
The meeting discussed a number of topics related to violations, including the arrest of journalists, confiscation of opposition politicians’ funds, the situation of Baha’is and minorities, the Commission’s participation in Geneva, the role of the Netherlands in the European group in supporting the Commission as a national mechanism, and opportunities for its participation in learning about the experiences of other countries in local trials and transitional justice.
Judge Ahmed Saeed Al-Muflehi, the Chairman of the Commission, provided an explanation of the latest developments of the Commission’s work during the ceasefire period and its efforts to reach all victims and areas experiencing various violations.
The Dutch Ambassador expressed her great admiration for the important role played by the Commission in investigating all violations, considering it as an important source of information and informing the world about what is happening in Yemen. She also confirmed the embassy’s continued communication with the Commission on any issue that serves its desired role.
Members of the Commission also discussed a number of issues that the Commission is working on and monitoring, including achieving accountability and examining the conditions of detainees in prisons and detention centers. They also discussed the Commission’s efforts to prepare for transitional justice and cooperation with civil society in promoting human rights and reducing violations.
