Workshop for NCIAVHR Investigators and Civil Society Organizations in Aden
Aden | November 26, 2024
A specialized workshop for assistant investigators of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) was inaugurated in Yemen’s interim capital, Aden. The workshop also included representatives from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from various governorates.
Over three days, from November 26 to 28, the workshop will focus on the topic of “Challenges in Defining Violations and the Specificity of Trials under Transitional Justice Options.” It is being held in collaboration with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and features the participation of 30 investigators and civil society representatives.
The workshop aims to examine mechanisms for collecting information related to the investigation of human rights violations, strengthen collaboration between the Commission and civil society, and discuss opportunities for achieving transitional justice from the civil society perspective. Additionally, it will explore the Commission’s role in shaping the prospects for transitional justice.
Key topics will include ongoing challenges in categorizing violations, addressing issues related to international humanitarian law and international human rights law, analyzing the Commission’s list of violations in light of recent local developments, identifying suitable solutions, and examining the specificity of trials related to human rights, as well as opportunities for justice, reparation, and redress.
This activity is part of the support program provided by the OHCHR to the Commission in Yemen under the 2024 Human Rights Council resolution.
