NCIAVHR Discusses Detainee Conditions with 35th Armored Brigade Leadership
Taiz | November 12, 2024
Today, a team from the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) conducted a field visit to the headquarters of the 35th Armored Brigade, part of the Taiz Axis. This visit was part of their investigation into human rights conditions, particularly in military zones that intersect with key and newly established roads affecting citizens’ freedom of movement.
During the visit, the Commission met with Brigadier General Abdulrahman Al-Shamsani, the commander of the 35th Armored Brigade, along with several other brigade leaders. Brigadier Al-Shamsani emphasized the brigade’s commitment to upholding human rights, especially to ensuring the safety and dignity of detainees held in connection with the war. He highlighted that these efforts align with the policies of the Taiz Axis Command and the Ministry of Defense, as mandated by national laws.
Brigadier Al-Shamsani also expressed the brigade’s willingness to address any inquiries that could clarify facts for the public and help counter any misinformation about the legal procedures of state institutions. The meeting included discussions about specific incidents currently under investigation by the Commission.
Commission member Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari, along with researchers, inspected the detention center operated by the brigade for detainees connected to the war. They evaluated the detainees’ access to food, healthcare, and communication with their families. Additionally, they assessed the detainees’ conditions under military intelligence and listened to over 25 detainees who expressed their requests for release and inclusion in UN-sponsored prisoner exchange deals.
