International Human Rights Day In Yemen 2024
On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, observed on December 10, the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) expresses deep concern regarding the situation of forcibly disappeared individuals and those who are arbitrarily detained. These individuals suffer unjust deprivation of their freedoms, as well as torture and mistreatment. The Commission emphasizes that these violations have devastating consequences that extend beyond the direct victims, significantly affecting the lives of women and children as indirect victims of such practices.
The Commission reiterates its call for the immediate release of all forcibly disappeared and arbitrarily detained individuals. It urges all parties and entities responsible for these violations to cease such practices immediately and to adhere to international human rights standards.
This day also coincides with the conclusion of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. The Commission expresses its concern over the ongoing targeting of women and the threats to their safety and well-being, particularly amid the declared truce in the country. It calls for an end to all forms of repression and harassment faced by female activists in Yemen.
In this context, the Commission appeals to the international community to intensify efforts to protect Yemeni women, especially those who are displaced or forcibly displaced, ensuring their access to essential resources and services that guarantee a dignified and secure life.
The Commission reaffirms its commitment to documenting these violations and advocating for justice, driven by its belief in the right of all Yemenis to live in dignity and safety, free from violence and abuse.
