Taiz: NCIAVHR Reviews War Detainees’ Conditions and Meets Judiciary Members

Today, the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) reviewed the conditions of war detainees in Taiz governorate.
During this field visit to Taiz governorate, the Commission’s field team visited the Military Intelligence headquarters to discuss the files under review by the Commission and examine the conditions of war detainees.
The team inspected the cells of the detention center, observed the conditions of detainees and how far their rights guaranteed in international conventions and national laws are applied, and listened to some detainees and recorded their detention and their various demands.
In the same field visit, the team also held a meeting with the Chief Prosecutor of Taiz, Judge Mohammed Sultan, and members of the Public Prosecution office assigned by the Public Prosecutor to look into cases that fall within the Specialized Criminal Prosecution’s jurisdiction.
In the meeting, the Commission’s observations were reviewed based on its visit to the Central Prison and the Military Intelligence Prison and the Commission emphasized the importance of starting to consider the case files of detainees held for a long time by the Specialized Criminal Prosecution
