National Commission Discusses Its Fourteenth Report and Human Rights Developments with the U.S. Mission in Geneva

The Chair and members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights met with two representatives of the U.S. Mission in Geneva to discuss the findings of the Commission’s fourteenth periodic report and developments in the human rights situation in Yemen, in light of the recent military escalation and its impact on civilians.

The Commission’s Chair, Judge Ahmed Saeed Al-Muflahi, outlined key incidents covered in the report, including violations associated with attacks on maritime navigation and their repercussions. He also reviewed the report’s recommendations to the international community and called for action to implement them.

The meeting addressed recent attacks on several districts, the resulting violations and growing humanitarian needs. Judge Al-Muflahi urged support for humanitarian response plans to address the emergency. The two sides also discussed ways to provide the Commission with technical assistance under the Human Rights Council resolution concerning support for its work.

Shamis Mahmoud, First Secretary for Economic and Political Affairs at the U.S. Mission, commended the Commission’s efforts to document human rights violations despite the challenges it faces. Sarah Al-Sayed, the Mission’s Peace and Security Officer in its Multilateral Economic and Political Affairs Section, also attended the meeting.
