NCIAVHR Examines Detention Conditions of (243) Inmates of Al-Dhalea Central Prison and Visits the Political Security Office

On Thursday, members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) carried out a field visit to the central prison facility in Al-Dhalea governorate and examined the departments and wards and the level of health, food, and social services available in the facility.
During the visit, the Deputy Director of Security, Colonel Mohammed Ahmed Ali, and the Director of the Central Prison, First Lieutenant Mohammed Abdel-Daem, reviewed the most important needs of the prison and prisoners, including adequate and necessary food, the provision of a prison health unit, and the reconstruction of the remaining sections of Senah Central Prison to be used for the inmates and improve their conditions.
From his side, the Vice-Chairman of the Commission, Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali, explained that one of the tasks of the Commission is to bring to the competent authorities recommendations aimed at improving the status of the rights of prisoners and detainees guaranteed by the national laws and international covenants through field visits and direct inspection of prisons and detention centers.
In this field visit, participated by the Commission members, Judge Sabah Alwani, Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari, and Judge Jihad Abdul Rasoul, the departments, rooms, and wards in which (243) inmates of the Central Prison are located were inspected, random samples of prisoners were heard and their most important legal and humanitarian demands were recorded.
In a related context, the members of the Commission visited the branch of the Political Security Office (PSO), listened to detainees there, met with Brigadier General Abdul-Qawi Al-Zubair, and discussed a number of facts being considered by the Commission.
