NCIAVHR Discusses Human Rights Protection Mechanisms with Hadhramaut Judiciary

Today, members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) met with representatives of the judiciary and public prosecution in Hadhramaut governorate. The meeting aimed to review the latest developments in human rights to support judicial efforts in law enforcement and address various challenges and ways to overcome them.
At the beginning of the meeting, the President of the Hadhramaut Appeals Court, Judge Mohammed Faraj Salem, welcomed the Commission members and emphasized the importance of cooperation with the judiciary. Mr. Salem highlighted the roles of monitoring, follow-up, and evaluation in enforcing and upholding the law in a manner consistent with the spirit and values of human rights, which also contributes to maintaining security and building peace.
Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali, Vice-Chairman of the Commission, reviewed the key outcomes of past cooperation between the Commission and the judiciary. These efforts have led to improvements in prison conditions and an increase in the number of legal releases of detainees. He stressed the Commission’s commitment to informing the judiciary about the results of their visits to detention centers and prisons to create more opportunities for enhancing human rights.
Judge Saleh Al-Saadi, Head of the Hadhramaut Appeals Prosecution, and Judge Shaker Binsh, Head of the Criminal Prosecution, presented the recent judicial actions and decisions in light of the increasing number of detainees in Hadhramaut. They emphasized intensified monitoring and oversight efforts, visits to prisons and detention centers to ensure the legality of all procedures, and steps to achieve stability and reassurance for citizens.
The meeting, attended by Judge Mohammed Bin Rubaid of the Criminal Division and Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari, a Commission member, discussed several cases of interest by the Commission. They verified the legal status of several detainees and recorded recommendations to be submitted to the judiciary leadership.
Commission members also visited the detention center of the Criminal Investigation Department, where they listened to detainees and examined the health, social, and legal conditions of their detention. Colonel Hani Bashkeel, Director of Criminal Investigation, presented several proposals aimed at ensuring detainees’ rights.
