NCIAVHR Meets with Local Authorities in Shabwa Governorate

Today, members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) met with the leadership of the local, security, and judicial authorities in Shabwa governorate. The meeting focused on the human rights situation in the governorate and discussed various issues that the commission is monitoring. Emphasis was placed on the need to protect and uphold human rights according to the applicable laws and regulations.

During the meeting, Abdulrabbu Hashla, Secretary-General of the Local Council, affirmed the local authority’s commitment to providing the necessary support for the Commission’s work in the governorate, facilitating its procedures, and assisting with its field visits to relevant entities. Mr. Hashla also assured full cooperation with the Commission’s inquiries.

In the same context, Commission members Judge Hazam Al-Morisi, Judge Jihad Abdulrasool, and Dr. Judge Diya Mohairis conducted field visits to the central prison, the criminal investigation department, and the police station in Ataq district, where they met with security officials at these facilities.

The Commission inspected the sections of the central prison and detention centers, examining the legal conditions and services provided to the 269 prisoners and detainees. The inmates explained their legal situations and requested the provision of essential needs such as food, medicine, cleaning supplies, and bedding.

The meeting with the local authorities was attended by Judge Aref Omir, President of the Shabwa Court of Appeals; Brigadier General Fouad Al-Nasi, Director-General of the province’s police; Judge Ali Al-Ahmadi, Deputy Prosecutor for Investigations and Prisons; a member of the Court of Appeals prosecution; the Director of the Central Prison; the Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigation Department; and the Commander of the First Brigade of Shabwa Defense Forces.
