On Tuesday, the Chairman of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) met with representatives of the judicial authority in Hadramout Governorate to discuss recent developments in human rights within the region. They explored potential collaboration frameworks, identified challenges facing the judicial process, and discussed strategies to overcome these obstacles.
Chairman Judge Ahmed Al-Maflahi, accompanied by Commission member Judge Nasser Al-Awadhi, reviewed several files being monitored by the Commission, including the legal status of various detainees. They also documented recommendations to be submitted to the leadership of the judiciary.
Judge Mohammed Sabiti, Head of the Hadramout Court of Appeals, welcomed the Commission team to the governorate. He addressed the types of cases handled by the court, highlighted the challenges it faces, and suggested ways to streamline litigation processes to ensure justice for victims and hold perpetrators accountable.
Judge Shakir Binsh, Head of the Specialized Criminal Prosecution, commented on recent judicial efforts, noting that the increase in cases this year has resulted in a rise in the inmate population at the central correctional facility, which is currently facing limited resources and inadequate support.
The meeting was also attended by two members of the governorate’s Criminal Division, Judge Khaled Marai and Judge Mohammed Bin Rubaid.
