NCIAVHR Chairman Meets with Commander of the Second Military Region

Today, Judge Ahmed Al-Maflahi, Chairman of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR), met with Major General Talib Barjash, Commander of the Second Military Region.
During the meeting, Judge Al-Maflahi reviewed the Commission’s recent monitoring, documentation, and investigation efforts. He highlighted key points from the Commission’s twelfth report, which was presented to the Human Rights Council in Geneva, and discussed the council’s recent unanimous decision to provide support to the Commission.
Judge Al-Maflahi emphasized that, through ongoing meetings with brigade and regional military leaders, the Commission aims to address several cases under investigation. The goal is to ensure that military personnel adhere to human rights principles by discussing specific incidents and following up on internal accountability procedures.
Major General Talib Barjash welcomed the Chairman to the military command and expressed his commitment to cooperate with the Commission and respond to all inquiries. He also confirmed the region’s readiness to appoint a liaison officer to facilitate communication between the regional command and the Commission, while addressing key challenges faced by the regional command.
Additionally, the meeting covered cases currently being handled by the Military Prosecution in the Second Region and discussed mechanisms for arrest and referral to the appropriate prosecution offices.
Attending the meeting were Judge Nasser Al-Awdhali, a member of the Commission, and Judge Murad Al-Namouri, Head of the Military Prosecution in the Second Region.
