Al-Mocha: NCIAVHR Meets the Local and Security Authorities to Examine Detention Conditions of Detainees

Members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) today met with the leadership of the local and security authority in the Al-Mocha district on the western coast of Taiz governorate.
In the meeting, the District Director, Mr. Basem Al-Zuraiqi, briefed the Commission members on the human rights situation in the district where the residents are still suffering from mine explosions.
Mr. Al- Zuraiqi affirmed the local authority’s keenness to facilitate the Commission’s task in accessing information and victims and to ensure the application of the law for all detainees and prisoners.
For his part, the Commission Vice-Chairman, Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali, explained the importance of the human rights file in Yemen, and the cooperation of all executive and judicial bodies with the Commission in promoting human rights and limiting any abuses. Mr. Al-Mashdali further Pointed out that this is one of the objectives of the Commission’s periodic visits to prisons and detention centers in all districts and governorates, hearing from witnesses, and collecting evidence of victims of violations.
The field team, in which members of the Commission, Judge Mohammed Talian and Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari participated, carried out a visit to the detention center of the Al-Mocha district police station.
