NCIAVHR Discusses the Law Enforcement Institutions Role with the Supreme Judicial Council

On Monday, a meeting was held in the Judicial Complex building in the interim capital, Aden, between the Chairman and members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) and the President and members of the Supreme Judicial Council to discuss recent developments in human rights and cooperation in the field of law enforcement and limiting violations.

At the beginning of the meeting, Judge Mohsen Talib, the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, appreciated the recent actions of the Commission in the field visits to the governorates and the close examination of the conditions of prisons and detention centers. Mr. Talib also explained the latest follow-up activities made by the Supreme Judicial Council on the progress of litigation and citizens’ access to justice in all liberated governorates.

For his part, Judge Ahmed Al-Maflahi, the Commission Chairman, reviewed the most important findings of the Commission’s field visits to (12) prisons and detention centers, where over (2,300) detainees and prisoners are located in the governorates (Marib, Taiz, Al-Dhalea, Shabwa, Hadramout, and Al-Hodeidah).

During the meeting, Judge Al-Maflahi also discussed the most important proposals related to the activation of the judiciary, the speedy consideration and decision-making of cases, and the role of the Supreme Judicial Council in achieving them.

Moreover, the meeting revealed the progress made to establish a court and a prosecution office that would look into human rights violations completely investigated by the Commission and following up the procedures for completing the judicial formation of the courts and prosecution offices of Hodeidah governorate, the judicial mobility in Taiz governorate, and reducing the backlog of cases and overcrowding in prisons and detention centers.

The meeting was attended by the President of the Supreme Court, Dr. Ali Al-Awash, the head of the Judicial Inspection Authority, Judge Nazim Bawazir, the Secretary General of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Mohsen Atboush, and the member of the Council, Judge Abdul Karim Al-Numani, on the one hand, and members of the Commission, Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari and Judge Sabah Al-Alwani, on the other.
