Today, the president and members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) discussed with the French Ambassador to Yemen, Ms. Catherine Cormouls-Houles, the developments in human rights in the country and the opportunities for accountability and justice for victims.
The French Ambassador to Yemen emphasized the significant contribution of the Commission as a mechanism for justice for victims and achieving justice for all those who have been subjected to violations. She stressed the need for the Commission to continue its work and reach the rest of the governorates, facilitating the work of its field teams in remote areas.
In turn, the Chairman of the Commission, Judge Ahmed Al-Maflahi, affirmed the intensification of the Commission’s efforts during the current period to reach the victims and ensure that no one from any governorate is excluded from documentation and investigation of any violations, to benefit from the investigative process in accountability and be used in mechanisms of transitional justice, according to the investigation standards applied by international committees.
Moreover, the Commission members, Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali and Judge Ishraq Al-Muqatri reviewed the working mechanisms applied during the investigation process and the nature of the relationship with a civil society based on cooperation in the field of information and access to victims. They highlighted the main challenges hindering access to remote areas and the criteria of the comprehensive permanent peace agreement sought by Yemenis, which does not waive the rights of victims and involves their early participation in any peace agreement.
