Judge Ahmed Al-Maflahi, Chairman of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR), met with Brigadier General Muti’ Al-Manhali, Director General of Coastal Hadhramaut Police, to discuss the state of human rights in the governorate.
During the meeting, Judge Al-Maflahi outlined the purpose of these field visits: to assess the human rights situation in the region, review recent developments, examine claims of violations, and listen to victims’ accounts.
He emphasized the Commission’s focus on the rights of prisoners and detainees, considering this one of its key areas of investigation. Judge Al-Maflahi expressed gratitude to the police department for its continuous cooperation and support in addressing obstacles to facilitate the Commission’s work.
In response, Brigadier General Al-Manhali assured that the Coastal Hadhramaut General Department of Security and Police is ready to provide all necessary support to ensure the Commission’s success in the coastal districts and cities.
The meeting also addressed the Commission’s ongoing efforts to secure justice for victims and achieve fairness, particularly regarding the conditions of prisoners and detainees. This includes concerns about the central correctional facility and the drug enforcement detention center, where the number of inmates has exceeded capacity amid limited resources.
Attending the meeting were Judge Nasser Al-Audhali, a member of the Commission; Brigadier General Abdullah Lahmadi, Director General of Drug Enforcement at the Ministry of Interior; and Lieutenant Wadhah Bazumah, Deputy Director of Drug Enforcement for Coastal Hadhramaut.
