National Commission to Investigate Holds Discussion at the Palais des Nations in Geneva

The National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights held a discussion at the Palais des Nations in Geneva to present its fourteenth periodic report and discuss the human rights situation in Yemen in light of the recent escalation. The event was attended by representatives of local and international civil society organizations, journalists and human rights advocates.

The Commission’s Chair, Judge Ahmed Saeed Al-Muflahi, updated participants on the Commission’s work and its efforts to monitor, document and investigate violations. He reaffirmed its commitment to reaching victims throughout Yemen’s governorates, helping them obtain justice and holding perpetrators accountable.

Commission members presented the report’s main findings, including the patterns of violations it examined, such as violations related to international navigation. They also explained the legal framework and methodology used by the Commission to document and analyse violations, and outlined its main challenges and recommendations to the parties to the conflict.

The presentation also covered the findings of field visits by Commission teams to several governorates, including visits to prisons and detention centres, hearings with victims of enforced disappearance and arbitrary detention, and the Commission’s cooperation with civil society organizations.
