Geneva | September 20, 2024

Today, the Chairman and members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) in Yemen met with the U.S. Ambassador to the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Michelle Taylor.

Judge Ahmed Al-Maflehi, Chairman of the Commission, discussed the human rights situation in Yemen, the challenges facing the Commission’s mission, and key findings from the 12th periodic report, issued earlier this month.

The meeting also addressed the human rights perspectives identified by the Commission in Yemen and the major challenges faced by the human rights movement in the country.

Ambassador Taylor expressed the United States’ appreciation for the important role the Commission plays, despite the significant challenges Yemen is facing.

She also reaffirmed her country’s commitment to providing appropriate support for the continuation of the Commission’s work through the Human Rights Council.
